The Nasca Lines
The lines are spread over 500 sq km of arid desert. They are more than 800 straight lines, 300 geometric figures and 70 animals and plant drawings and are almost imperceptible at ground level... only when you fly above you can have the undesrtanding of how grandiose those figures are. Just the condor figure have 130 meters wingspan.
The big question is: who did it and why, when you can only properly appreciate it from the air. A German mathematician, who spent almost 50 years of her life studying the lines, came to the conclusion, not always accepted, that the lines were made by the Paracas and the Nasca Cultures between 900 before Christ and 600 after Christ. She claims that the lines were calendars for agriculture purpose. There are lots of theories, including one that the Nasca people were able to construct balloons to observe them from the air. The truth is that nobody really knows… which makes them even more interesting. Maria Reich tried in vain to avoid the builders of the Panamericana highway to cross the lines, but as you can see from the pictures, progress made its way over it...

A grande pergunta é porque foram contruidas, quando só se consegue observa-las de altitude. Uma matematica Alemã, Maria Reich, dedicou 50 anos de sua vida estudando as linhas de Nasca, e chegou a um conclusão, não totalmente aceita por outros estudiosos, que as linhas formavam um calendario com fins de uso na agricultura, e que foram contruidas pelas culturas Paracas e Nasca durante os anos de 900 antes de Cristo até 600 depois de Cristo. A verdade é que ninquem sabe bem porque foram feitas, o que as tornam ainda mais interessante. Sugiro que procurem na internet sobre isto, pois tem muito mais coisa sobre a cultura Nasca do que simples linhas e desenhos no deserto. Maria Reich tentou em vão que a rodovia Panamericana passasse por cima das linhas, mas aparentemente as forças do "progresso" são mais fortes e não conversaram. passaram os tratores por cima...
